Superintendent Interview Observations

The five finalists for Superintendent will be interviewed on Thursday, May 11th and local PTA members are encouraged to observe the process. We’d like to make sure that we have representation during all of the interviews so that, as a advocacy group as a whole, we have all of the information possible when weighing in on the decision.

  • All interviews are open to the public and will take place at Kirby-Smith.
  • Anyone attending an interview will be able to fill an input form for observers that will be given to our School Board Members and taken into consideration.
  • Observers are not allowed to ask questions or interject into the interview process.

While each interview has only one slot available for sign-up, you’re welcome to attend as many as you’d like. Thank you for your help with this important process.

You can find the schedule and sign up to observe here!

Advocacy Call to Action!

Keep calling and emailing! Here are the FLPTA talking points. Call today and through the weekend, even after hours. Leave messages. The vote is MONDAY!

*Fund K-12 education at the Senate’s level – a record $7414.26 per pupil. Our children need and deserve more than the compromise budget, which decreases per pupil spending by $20/pupil.

*Pay for charter school construction and repairs using state, not local, capital dollars. Districts are required to use dollars based on need, meaning the money goes to the neediest schools. Charters will receive the money whether they need it or not leaving less money for our broken-down public schools.

*Respect local control of turnaround schools and charter school authorization. Allow school districts to participate in the allocation for “Schools of Hope”. We elect School Board members for a reason. (This is still a point of contention in the budget.)

*We need actual, not token, school accountability reform. (The compromise bill does minimal reform to our testing system. The original SB-926 was a step in the right direction.)

*Eliminate additional tests that are used for the sole purpose of evaluating teachers. Give districts the flexibility to create common sense teacher evaluations.

*Pass the real recess bill-SB 78. Give K-5 students a much needed break in their day.

If you don’t want all of them, tell them how you do not appreciate the $20/pupil cut and this budget’s failure to support public education!
